When we last left Bob, he was doing just that- bobbing along through the depths of space...
"What in the name of Hades is going on here?!!" Bob screamed for the fifth time since his entering the blackness of space with his two little friends, Bolt and Baste. "I mean, this just can't be real! How in the name of Mike are we able to breathe in space? The windows should have exploded by now and shot our dead bodies hurtling through the dark abyss!" Bob's forehead began sweating bullets and when they hit the ground, they began to go off. Luckily for him, they bounced around a few times and then splattered on the seat or wherever else they landed. Bob's only regrets about the situation is that they didn't hit the two little jibbers next to him and put them out of his misery.
"I think you might want to calm down a bit." Baste said as he dodged another bullet of sweat.
"Yes," came Bolt's voice as he too dodged another sweat bullet. "What if you sweat a really big drop and it takes out the window?"
Bob wiped his forehead and reclined his seat to think for a minute. When he did, however, he noticed something extremely large above him and it was coming closer at a steady rate. Having just gone through everything that he had in this short ammount of time, Bob did quite well in containing his fears- and the scream he so desperately wanted to let out. Instead, his eyes just got bigger and bigger.
"Oh, look, Baste. I think laying back did him some good."
"I'm not so sure. Although he has quit sweating, his eyes seem to have something wrong with them. Perhaps I should rub his feet." Bob could feel his heart in his throat and didn't care what the jibbers did at this point, because in Bob's eyes, they were all dead. This huge space craft was going to hit them and turn them into space garbage for certain. "I can't seem to get his shoe off, Bolt. Could you please help?" The ship was closing in fast and all that Bob could see were the lights of the ship now. Nothing above them but ship and certain death. Just then, Bolt jumped down by his feet and landed on the gas pedal which, in turn, sent the car flying out from under the ship and through the darkness before them.
"What just happened?" Bob asked in a mixture of relief and shock.
"Well, we just got your shoe off," replied Baste.
"And were about to massage your feet," finished Bolt.
"No! I meant, what did you do to make us go?"
"I didn't go anywhere," Bolt said.
"And neither did I," Baste said unconvincingly.
"OOOOHH!" Bob clentched his teeth to suppress his anger. "Did either of you two push or move anything just now?"
"Well, not just now, no." Baste said.
"All I moved was my tail. Was I not supposed to?" Bolt asked clutching his tail with slight hint of fear in his eyes.
"I don't know. This is all just so confusing."
"STOP IT NOW!!" Bob yelled. "When both of you got down by my feet," he asked through his clentched teeth, "did either of you touch anything?"
"Well," said Bolt, who was still clutching his tail. Then he looked like he was seriously pondering his every action back to that point. "Oh yes!" he exclaimed as he turned towards the pedals. "I landed on this thingy," and with that, jumped on the pedal again, shooting them a little farther and faster into space.
"What a relief!" Bob said, lightly kicking the two jibbers out of his way and grabbing the steering wheel. "I wonder what will happen when I hit the brake pedal." With that, he slowly pressed the brake and the car slowed down to a stand still. If sound could be heard in space, by humans, and you were standing somewhere in the vicinity of Bob's car, you would have heard him shout for joy. But- you're not, people can't, and so you didn't. Suffice it to say, he was extremely happy about this finding.
Bob decided to turn on the stereo and listen to his CD, but when he turned it on, it was on the radio setting and he heard some voices talking. He reached for his CB, hoping to make contact with the voices because they sounded human. "Hello? Can anybody hear me? I'm lost in space!" Static filled the air and when he was about to try again, a faint voice came over the CB this time.
"Whhherrre Arrrrre Yooooouuu Gooooinnnngg?" Came a slow and raspy voice. It sent chills down his spine and Baste into the arms of Bolt.
"You know. I think your right on that one." Bob agreed and pushed the gas pedal as hard as he could. "Let's get outta here." He said, shifting the car into second gear.
Suddenly, a glowing orb appeared in the back seat of his car and Bolt and Baste went back to look at it. Given the curious nature of their species, they really just wanted to play with the ball.
"I'm not sure that's so wise," Bob warned the two who were pushing it back and forth between each other as it floated in the air. "Don't you remember that voice we just heard? For all we know, that could be some kind of... who know's what!" At that, Baste and Bolt jumped back into the front seat next to Bob and stared back at the orb in fear. For, right before their eyes, the orb began to unfold and a strange alien began to appear.
Bob hit the brakes and the creature hit the dashboard, landing on top of Bolt and Baste. Then, shaking it's head, it sat up and looked at Bob with it's cat-like eyes and yelled, "Get us outta here fast!" It grabbed Bob's face with a strong, yet squishy hand and turned him to see the ship that had almost hit the car moments earlier. "They're after me, and unless you want to be captured to, I'd suggest you get us outta here.."
A bright light flashed and suddenly Bob was swerving to miss several cars that were coming straight at him. He got back over to the other side of the old highway and stopped the car. Bob layed his head on the steering wheel and sighed, "This is not working out. I shoulda stayed home."
"Where are we?" came the voice of the alien and Bob sat up, not surprised by the addition of another creature in his car.
"If it's where I think we are, we should be seeing a red guy with a pointy tail and a pitchfork any second now." Bob calmly told the new visitor.
"OH! OH! OH!" Bolt exclaimed. Then he turned to Baste and asked, "Did you hear that? Cousin Boulregard is coming on our trip too!" And both jibbers jumped for joy the alien looked at Bob as if waiting for some sort of answer to an unasked question.
Until next time.....
